About the artist

Hi! I’m Caroline Cattermull. Welcome to my website!

Painting is an integral part of my life and I work from my home studio in Devon, England.

Using acrylic paint, I mix playful, distinctive colour palettes to create paintings that vibrate with energy. My brush technique creates an illusion of movement and I like to weave a story on the surface of the canvas, sometimes embedding elements of abstract shape in the artwork. The paintings capture the essence of a subject; the glint in an eye, a moment of respite in a landscape, an expression, a split second. These moments are bought to life using layers of paint and immediate, confident brush marks.

Inspired by travel and nature, light and movement, I love to create paintings that make the viewer look twice, feel transported. Having lived abroad for the best part of 20 years, the colours and cultures of the world are my greatest inspiration. This can be seen in these vibrant paintings, where attention to detail is now being integrated with a new, looser way of working.
