Description
True story. As a child, this man spent the day with his mum in the fields of Bhutan. When he grew more mobile, more inquisitive, he would wander off and his mum found it difficult to work while keeping an eye on him. He could easily have got hurt, injured, or in trouble. So, she attached a rope to his wrist and while she was working, tied him to a tree nearby. This was a good solution for a while but he grew older and could no longer be restrained in this way. The family could not afford to send him to school so they took him to Phajoding Monastery where he joined other boys who were training to be monks. His name is Namgay and he has lived at the monastery ever since.
Now, he teaches English and looks after the young monks whose lives have had similar twists of fate. He’s well equipped to understand these young lads and helps them, guides them and cares for them. The monastery grows its own food but they rely on donations and the goodwill of people who come and visit. The money paid for this painting will go to Phajoding Monastery, Bhutan. This may not seem much at all but every little helps.
